I have no idea who advises you and writes those terrible emails for you, but let’s be honest: I too have had enough. Wikipedia’s marketing gets worse and worse each year. It’s not smart, it’s not compelling. It’s just negative, passive-aggressive, unoriginal, and… whiny, oh, so very whiny.
Have you seen the latest South Park Halloween special in which Butters gets forced into a toxic relationship with a narcissistic pervert mummy? You’re the mummy in this. Wikipedia is the mummy, and that kind of garbage marketing tactic is akin to the manipulative crap the mummy pulls to seek Butters’s attention.
Like most toxic relationships, ours need to stop. The abused partner needs to show self-respect and say: I’ve had enough.
So, I won’t give this year. I do want to, and it actually makes me feel shitty to trigger this metaphorical suicide vest in order to make a point. But I must, Jimmy. Because if I give this year too, the morons in charge of your marketing are going to think that their campaigns are responsible for raising all that money, even as it is abundantly clear from the feedback of fellow Wikipedia lurkers that you guys manage to raise the cash IN SPITE of these garbage campaigns.
Well, no more.
Come up with something better next year Jimmy. Something that doesn’t involve manipulative emails that make you sound like an abusive ex in need of a restraining order, or invasive headers that look a predatory VC firm bought Wikipedia and is trying to turn it into TMZ. Pornhub made the Beesexual channel for God’s sake, and it worked!
Be more like Pornhub.
