  • Kill Alex? No! Island should have more devoted man-candies. Heck, just give her an entire harem! All joking aside, I don’t mind Alex. Unless he’s going to become whiney and emo. Angst gets old pretty fast. I also dearly hope Island and March get it on because there is only so much courtship the audience can bear before yelling “get on with it!” Though…once there is sex the challenge is what to do with the romantic aspect of the series now that the buildup is gone… If you can handle that conundrum in a surprising and refreshing fashion I will be much in awe. I haven’t really read a book where once the romance is physically consummated the couple continue to have an interesting relationship. Sad, I know, since in real life your relationship isn’t a buildup to ONE sex scene. I also adore your sense of humor. One of the reasons I keep coming back to the series is because the books actually make me laugh outloud and that’s quite a feat. More nerdy and literary jokes please!

Interesting point, it’s also why I play around with readers regarding the buildup. I’ve read some books where the characters sleep together after fifty pages, and after that, it’s mostly drama, but you never quite get invested in it, because the best part — the chemistry — was sort of expedited.

It’s one of the reasons why Spotless will not be a long series: Readers of Janet Evanovitch are apparently on the verge of suicide, and I don’t want that for my readers, LOL. The way I planned it, the third book will make the overall plot progress, and the fourth book will bring closure to what’s left to tell of the story and end the series: I don’t want to drag it on forever if I have nothing new to bring to the table.

In any case, there’s also a lot of fun stuff in the early stage of a relationship, and I do think that will still be some interesting things to write about March and Island’s relationship even beyond what-which-shall-not-be-named, because both have a lot to learn and still some way to go. πŸ™‚

      • It looks like you have everything planned out perfectly and there is nothing to worry about then! And THANK YOU for not putting your readers on the verge of suicide. My happily unsuicided head is grateful. I was merely worried that your series, like some series which-shall-not-be-named, will go on for 9 volumes and still only be teasingly hinting at the activity-that shall-not-be-named. I can wait a decent amount of time for some action, since I agree, the chemistry is the most thrilling part of the romance, but there is a limit. I think a quartet is a nice compact amount of books. Though, I hope you plan on creating more series. I know I will be lost and forlorn once the series is completed. You never know what kind of depraved mischief a book addict might get into when her supply is cut off.

  • Island and March should take the relationship to the next level. The romance will be more vibrant that way. I really want Ilan, Kalahari and Paulie to be back. Ilan and March were the perfect pair for the first series mission. Kalahari and Island can compare notes on March;) I am sure your sense of humor can make it a thousand times better. Def we need more nerdy stuff. I strongly support to keeping Alex appearance to a minimum.

    • πŸ™ No one likes Alex. Poor guy … As for Kalahari, she will be featured briefly in book 3, and then prominently, in a shorter piece, which I call the 3.5 and will be released between Book 3 and the “grand finale” that is supposed to be book 4. πŸ˜‰

I both LOVED the build-up in March and Island’s relationship and huffed in sexual frustration over it too! Well done! I agree that I’d like to see their ‘honeymoon’ period played out some in the next books. Especially with Island learning her way around March’s body. Boy, I sure do enjoy those descriptions! Plus, with so much . . . dysfunction in their personalities, I can see tons more hilarity to play with. Another thing I loved about your two books is having a mystery/story beyond the relationship. So many novels bog you down in relationship crap that it gets tedious. I was truly interested in the mystery as well. I get what you’re saying about JE novels (I loved those also), but I just cannot seem to keep with a series after, say, 20 books! That said, I think you definitely have fodder for 10 books at least! I agree with Padmini in that the ancillary characters would be a welcome addition to future books.

    • Duly noted! See my reply above regarding Kalahari: she will make a cameo in book 3 and be a central character in a shorter story will be released between book 3 and 4. πŸ™‚

  • Ilan and Kalahari back pls, would love to see Dries develop. I need to know what happens to Krakky and the Platypii! Also would love to see March come a cropper in a glitter/ confetti/ fiasco possibly involving transvestite strippers (a girl can dream) otherwise I’d settle for seeing him sweat over a floor covered in legos. πŸ™‚

    • You’re cruel! πŸ™‚

We will, indeed, learn a lot more about Dries in that third book, so that’s covered! As for an update on Krakky, you will get one too. I’ll have to think about the platypii … πŸ™‚

  • I think long series can work. JD Robb is on book …. 40 something … no readers are googling effective suicide methods (AFAIK). I do think Eve and Roarke are the exception to some other truly mediocre drawn-out tosh that should have been sewn up in 5 books – but it CAN be done and it can be done with wit and charm and jokes that span booooooooks. The Candy Thief springs to mind πŸ™‚

I do think longer series need awesome supporting characters rather than spin-offs and that’s one of the reasons that Robb’s work so well … well that and I have a girl-crush on Mavis.

Anyway sorry Camilla …. over to Crystal … don’t let Island turn into one those women that is abused by all and sundry – she needs to grow a little character. After all she’s been through she would grow up a little or …. crack up.

Otherwise – do what you do best … and surprise us … I mean come on … beat killer platypi/platypuses they were awesome. The Lego hadron collider … genius. Prince … I liked Prince. It’s all awesome … Just write faster πŸ™‚

    • Don’t worry, he is present for the entirety of the book. Although he’ll have to share the spotlight with Dries, who’s much more colorful than Alex …
And I’ll make sure to keep Island’s character evolving (I think she keeps getting more agency in this third book, but she’ll never be a Lara-Croft kind of heroine, even though I do love those).

  • Well, since my birthday is the 24th July, so this is like a birthday present for me, sex, sex and more sex. Although honestly , I really would like to see them together properly and working together as a couple whilst managing to fit in some probably awkwardly weird “dating”.

    • I *will* most likely do an uncensored version again for avid readers. You’ll never see graphic, squishy depictions, though, because I like such scenes to be descriptive of the mood rather than the might rod and dewy petals. My biggest problem is that my husband reads my books, and if he ends up finding very explicit sex, he’ll never let me live it down! πŸ™‚

  • There definitely needs to be some sex between March and Island but I agree with it being implied and not too graphic. They should get close to doing the dirty deed and then they are interupted, which builds up the tension. I would love to see them work together and have them being all cute doing it. No love triangles!! I absolutely hate them! Takes away from the building up of the main characters personality. More Dries, I love the intrigue of him. And finally, keep having the nerdy, quirky humor! This is why I have recommended the series to other readers because I love the humor! And Island spacing off, I do that all the time!

  • Perhaps we might see more of Dries. Maybe he can kidnap Island and she can meet some other Lions, and March has to race to try to find her. (Oh jeepers, you can see I’ve been overdosing on romances lately.) And I’d definitely like to see more romance scenes with March. But really, just continue writing in the sparkling, witty, and altogether endearing manner that you do, and I’ll be one happy camper! Come on July — I can hardly wait!!!!

    • Susan, you (almost) have psychic powers. Below you’ll find the official blub for book 3, which has been ready (as the full outline) for a couple of months and will be officially added to the GR page in 2 months (so that people who haven’t read the series yet have the time to do so and don’t get spoiled. πŸ˜‰ )

      ———————————————————————————–

Sweet Jesus, this is it! Or maybe not.

Perpetually foiled romance heroine Island Chaptal and reformed cleaning expert March β€”or is it Mr. November?β€” are enjoying a pleasant break in South-Africa after brushing death in the inhospitable and platypus-infested mountains of Liechtenstein . . .

That is, until a commercial flight disintegrates over the Atlantic, killing hundreds, and Island’s supervillain dad makes the news as the mastermind behind the attack. Old Lion Dries is now on the run, and he calls upon his last allyβ€”and favorite discipleβ€”March.

From the streets of Venice to the turquoise waters of French Polynesia, March and Island embark on a deadly race against the clock to find out what secrets lie behind Dries’s downfall, and stop the mysterious β€œCrystal Whisperer” before it’s too late. This time, though, there might just be no winning against futuristic weapons, CIA agents, Roomba cats, (reluctantly) evil henchmen, and dads who won’t let you get your groove on, dammit!

  • Hi Camilla, first I just want to say that I discovered spotless on audible and I thought I would give it a try and now I am addicted… Island and March are awesome. I’m so so glad I gave your books a chance. I just finished Ruby last night, it was great. I have to say that at first I was worried about the love triangle potential but it turned out ok (I’m not a fan of love triangles but this one was alright). After reading the comments on your blog I feel like I need to defend Alex a bit. Yes he made some serious mistakes and he needs to learn his lesson but I feel like their could be potential for Alex to be a good guy. I think all his nastiness came out of job stress and his need for revenge on Island’s dad (mostly his need for revenge). I feel bad for him and Poppy, they deserve a happy ending, just not with Island, with someone who brings out the sweetness and nice peaceful guy in Alex. Also I would would really like to see Poppy in the next book she sounds like she could be interesting. That’s my wish for next book… Give Alex a happy ending (or possibly his own book?) and let us meet Poppy.

P.S. The narrator for your books is awesome. She does a great job voicing Island.

    • I Dayle, thank for your feedback! That’s interesting … Alex still has a few layers left, but I’ve been wondering how I could give him his own story (got a partial draft, will need to get back to it, someday. πŸ™‚ )

  • No emo angst for March and Island! I want Island to save March’s tail once. Krakky! And yes to nerdy, funny, sweet sex! And of course, more romance books satire. (I lost it over the Twilight jokes. Tee-heeee!)

  • Keep Alex, make his attraction to Island a little darker creating this pull between him and March. March needs to see more people want her. Hell Island needs to see this. I would like to know exactly how Island’s father (the one appointed) knows Dris and her mother. I think he’s keeping a lot secret. You REALLY need to address Island’s eating disorder. I know you doesn’t set-out to miss so many meals, but this running joke is becoming disturbing. I would like to see Island bringing March home for dinner at her father’s and low and behold Dris arrived for dinner…dun dun daa! Didn’t see that one coming. LOL, all seriousness, I would like to see Island become more into herself, not a bad ass fighter, but she learns what works for her. I love her quirkiness and how she seems to make Alex and March jump when she really needs to. I could go on and on. Hey is Joy a spy?

    Reply
    • Interestingly, March does get jealous of someone in book #3, but probably not who you’d expect … (Hints are dropped in Beating Ruby!)

I didn’t think of the eating disorder thing. Island does miss many meals, mostly because of explosions and because she’s often not to in the mood to eat (either after her fight with Alex and March, and when facing … Wille’s turkey sausage!)

Joy … Joy will meet the man of her dreams in book #4, much to Island’s chagrin. πŸ˜‰

  • I’m sorry… this really needs to be a TV series…I would tune in and roll over laughing every episode. You’re a great writer. I can’t wait to see what’s new from you.

    • A writer can dream! To be honest though, my publisher just dropped the series because they don’t believe in it, so we’ll have to wait a little to see a TV series, LOL.

  • I am very sorry to hear about your publisher. Is it possible to get a new one?Is there anything we can do to tell them we like your books?

    • Don’t worry Amy, I think I’ll be fine as an indie. I also chose this because it’s less wait for you guys between books. My agent offered me a contract, but between finding a publisher willing to publish with my current sales, and the whole production process which is very slow in traditional publishing, you’d have seen book 3 mid-2017!

  • I would love to see Island and March get totally buried by the unlikeliest but most common of romantic book cliches. Say Island has a surprise pregnancy and disappears so March has to find her and they have second-chance love. And can you imagine the gold to be mined from March’s first encounter with a poopy diaper? Or insert a step-brother anti-hero who has even hotter chest hair than March as a limited side character. Looks like we already missed the opportunity to have Island sold as a virgin sex slave to a sheik. Just saying that plopping them for a scene or two into an outrageous romance book trope could be fun. These two are great together and your stories hum along best when they are interacting.

Ditto on seeing an Alex and Poppy spin-off.

    Reply
    • I like to idea of inserting an actual 100% cheesy trope situation, I need to think about how it could work!

As for Alex, I have something in my attic, which I’ll finish someday!

  • I’d love to see a return of Kalahari and Ilan. Same goes for Alex – I didn’t hate him. He did some shitty things but is probably a pretty decent guy beneath it all. (In my opinion his worst crime was his use of the term “Baby”.) I guess I’d just like to see more of Island & March’s awkward relationship dance, with a generous sprinkling of jokes and explosions. (You do you, Camilla!) Also, I wouldn’t be opposed to more gratuitous descriptions of March’s chest hair. πŸ˜‰ Lastly, I know I’m focusing on minor details here but, I’d like to know if Prince really lost his job and if Masaharu ever found meaningful employment. These are the questions that keep me up at night.
Thanks for keeping me entertained. Can’t wait for the next one!

I’m happy you liked it! I too play a little (although not as much as my husband, who’s connected to Steam via an IV). If you haven’t palyed, my latest game crush was “The Talos Principle” (Kind of the same genre as Portal, puzzle, nice setting and some intriguing backstory to keep you going).
